Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Citibank Credit card department,

Advertising and marketing New York

-- Per attached Best Buy purchase of - ( - ) Office 365 Product ( back-copy ) and receipts, I was under the impression that if I did not " scratch-off '' the back of the - Office 365 product-card ( see attached ), the product could simply be returned to Best Buy and put back on the Best Buy store shelf for another purchaser. However, upon returning to the Best Buy - -, - store at - - - -, -, NY - with the " unscratched '' - Office 365 product card, I was told by the Best Buy store salesman - - and Best Buy customer service rep that even if I brought it back in the 15-day window time for returns, since it is " Software '' it is NON-REFUNDABLE.

could simply return the product to where I bought it. As a " naive '' buyer, I was also led to believe to always buy software for any computer purchase, but the - Airbook ( - Air, - Air on the receipt ) apparently is able to use cloud-based docs and spreadsheets, and does n't need any " downloadable '' software. The original Best Buy salesperson - - and Best Buy Customer Service rep were unable to help me with any possibility of return and explained that once the - Office 365 product was scanned at the register, at that point in time, it became non-refundable - even though I did n't scratch-off the back of the product card and even if I had brought it back in the 15-day return-time window. I was not made aware of this at the time of purchase, but rather was simply made aware of the need to scratch-off the back to use the product. Customer service at Best Buy - - store at - - - -, -, NY - told me to call -, which I did, and they gave my this email -- to which I wrote. What is the official procedure for Best Buy, or ANY store that sells separate software along with computers, to accept return of UNUSED/UNSCRATCHED - product to enable a refund or exchange? At the attempted time of return, Best Buy in-store Customer Service seemed to imply the onus was now on me as the " owner '' of the software-license to NOW deal directly with - (?! ) since their cash-register-scan removed the product from their shelves without the possibility of return. However, further enticement was made at the time of purchase to perform the purchase via " new '' Best Buy Credit Card, which also was done, again with the implicit ( and now-found-to-be-INCORRECT ) assumption that returns could be made to the card if the - Office 365 product was deemed unnecessary at a later date. Please investigate and reply.
