Amex Credit card department,
In -, after holding an American Express personal green card for 11 years, American Express solicited me to open a Gold Card account. I was a - at the time, and as most -, ours was run completely departmentalized. All my department 's finances were my personal responsibility. The credit backing for my gold card is mine, not my former -. Indeed, I have n't even been at that firm since - -. Yet I only just now found out that American Express chooses, when there is a company co-listed on the account, to only provide reporting on the company 's credit, not the individual 's. I am and was -. I need that credit history. Nobody explained to me at the time that by opting for the Gold Card they solicited me for, that it would mean I would give up the right to have my positive credit management reported positively on my credit reports. On - for example, age of credit is the SECOND SINGLE LARGEST FACTOR in the score, and here, because Amex chooses not to report the positive credit history on my personal report, despite the full 19 years of the account being 100 % handled
higher if they would just start reporting my 19 year positive history. There is no earthly reason for them not to report the positive on my personal bureaus other than their own stubborn choice. There is no law or prohibition, and indeed, would n't it be good public policy for a - person to have both their - and themselves personally get the credit benefit? Indeed, Amex would sue me if I failed to pay, yet they do n't give me the positive reporting for timely paying over 19 years. This is an outrage and a travesty. American Express 's only solution here is to cancel the existing Gold Card account, and have me apply for new credit. Which would FURTHER destroy my credit, because it would comprise both a hard credit inquiry, which would bring my score down, and it would comprise a brand new, one month old, not nineteen year old, line of credit, so it would make the average age of my credit even more artificially young than it already is with them giving no reporting at all on my private report. This has got to be fixed.
