PayPal Holdings, Inc. Credit card department,
Unsolicited issuance of credit card California
I was informed in - 2016 that I had an outstanding balance for a PayPal credit card and yet had no idea that I had signed up for a PayPal credit card. I allegedly signed up for the account in - 2016 and never used it until - 2016. To be clear, I made the - 2016 transaction thinking that I would be billed to my pre-existing credit or debit card account. I called the PayPal customer service representative who told me I allegedly went though a credit application process. He also confirmed that I may have confused their credit application button with their payment transaction button. He also confirmed that PayPal does not ask standard credit card issuer application questions ( e.g. what is your income? ), which would inform the standard credit borrower that they were in fact applying for a credit card. The damage is first to my credit score. I have had an outstanding score for my entire adult life, and it 's partly because I do n't frivolously apply for credit. Their hard credit check, in addition to my history of applications for another line of credit, damages my reputation to various critical parties, i.e. renters, employers, future loan issuers, etc. I 've gone so far as to ask PayPal to unlink this new credit card from my account as I do n't wish to give them my business. I 've also read that a previous class action suit in Maryland represented several similar complaints.
