Amex Credit card department,
Advertising and marketing Georgia
I opened an American Express gold card last year when booking - - flights to -. The card advertised - free miles to Gold AME- customers. The miles were to be credited within a certain time-frame. As the miles were never credited to my account, I called American Express and complained. I was told that I was not eligible because I previously had an AME- gold card. After I complained that this was not disclosed, the agent promised to credit the miles to my account. Several months letter, I followed up with another phone call only to find out that AME- had no intention of crediting my account. They claimed that this was disclosed when I opened the account but could not tell me or provide me with any back up information to substantiate their claim. I notified them that their practice was illegal and told them I would be filling an official claim. Sure enough, they are sticking to their story - they notified me that this was disclosed during the on-line application process. I was not aware of it and as far as I am concerned, this was not disclosed. They can not prove that this was disclosed and none of my disclosures that I received show this being disclosed. What prevents AME- updating their disclosure a year later and claiming that I was subject to it? I think that this is a deceptive practice to lure people into products which they otherwise would have no interest in attaining. What are my rights here?
