Vehicle loan Taking out the loan or lease California
I recently tried to sell my car at - in -. The car loan has been paid off for several months, maybe even a year ( I ca n't remember the exact date when I paid it off ). The car was originally purchased in - & the title is from -. The car is currently registered in - & when - looked it up in the dmv system they said it still shows that the car is owned by Nissan and that they needed a notarized letter from Nissan stating that the car was paid off. When I contacted - finance and asked for a notarized letter they stated that they do n't handle lien releases and that I would have to file the request through -. I did exactly as I was told and after paying $45.00 for an expedited request, I received the lien release almost 2 weeks later. The actual document is not notarized and therefore not accepted by -. It looks like something I could have produced on my home computer. During my 2 week wait for this lien release I contacted Nissan again because the request was taking too long. They said they would send me a letter but it would not be notarized. At this point I am running out of options. I ca n't sell the car because Nissan is n't willing to provide a notarized letter. The car legally belongs to me, after all it 's been paid off for a while. I do n't know what else to do but this is costing me too much time and money.
