In - -, I received - American Express ( Amex ) credit cards : Blue CASH and Blue Cash REBATE. I charged $220.00 to the REBATE card. In - -, I found out that the REBATE card had an annual fee, so I cancelled it and arranged for the $220.00 to be transferred to the CASH account. My next Amex statement was for $220.00 to the REBATE account. I paid off that account on - -, -. Amex notified me in - - that the CASH account had an outstanding balance of $220.00. I explained that I had made that payment to the cancelled REBATE account. I sent a proof of payment for Amex to conduct an investigation. I would not be able to use that card
Amex called in - - ; the customer service person said " everything is fine, and you may use your CASH card again. '' I made a charge in - -. Then I was again notified in - - that there was an outstanding balance of $220.00. I sent another proof of payment, and they were to conduct another investigation. I received several robocalls In - and - - demanding payment for a balance over $300.00, the original $220.00 plus late fees and interest. I called Amex to remind them that my account was being investigated for the lost payment I 'd made in - -, and was told the investigation was ongoing. In - -, my CASH credit card was cancelled by American Express. In - -, I received a check from Amex for $220.00. Experian notified me via email that my credit rating was hit with a --point subtraction from Amex. In - -, I received a demand for payment of over $400.00 ( balance due + late fees + interest ) with the threat of sending the account to a collection agency if I do n't pay that amount by - -, -. In addition, in - - I discovered that I had paid over $700.00 more than the balance due for a previous Amex credit card account. Amex called and opened a new credit card for me, promising that a check for the overpayment was " in the mail. '' I never received that refund due. I am beyond frustrated. I have written and called about that the $770.00 credit due to me ; they deny even knowing about that account I had ( I have the account number and have provided it to them, but with no response ). Please help me to communicate with Amex about this untenable situation. I am willing to sue if necessary. I will need help in recovering the documentation for the $770.00 overpayment. I got the account number and amount from my - credit report online, but did not copy the entire report. I have not yet tried to retrieve those proof of payment documents, but plan to do so today.
