Other bank product/service Account opening, closing, or management California
Obtained a safe deposit box at the Chase Bank appx - ago. The Chase Bank is on - - in -, CA and was a Washington Mutual Bank at the time of opening the box. I was provided a free box with a permanent waiver due to program running at that time. In appx late - I came in and spoke with the manager of that location at the time ( his name was - - ) and stated that I was moving to - area ( 2.5hrs from - ) and having a safe box in - did not make logistical sense for me. He said that would be no problem and that he " took care of it ''. I provided him the - keys and then he and another associate locked them up. Beginning - I began getting safe deposit box letters about my annual renewals after previously getting nothing about it since closing it down. It still shows that my box is open and while it is still also showing the box as an annual fee waiver I am concerned as I do not have the keys due to turning them in and am afraid this
of my name would be have it drilled at my expense of over $200.00. I explained what took place with closing the box in - to which the reply was " that was 8yrs ago, you do n't have any proof of that happening ''. I placed my trust in the a person chosen by the bank to manage the entire location and am not being told to close out I have to pay a fee for his lack of responsibility. I feel that this has been a bait and switch tactic in order to collect non-interest income for a bank that is struggling to replace fee income lost due to overdraft fee changes in the banking climate. While $200.00 is small potatoes to a place like Chase, it is a huge fee for me and those happening multiple times to hundreds of people over a footprint can add up to strong revenue additions. I have attempted to reach the current manager of this location but she is never available to speak. The most recent attempts were on -/-/- to which I was told " she is on vacation all week '' which was told to me after identifying who I was and why I was calling. I did not believe this to be true, so I called again on -/-/- and this new person said " she is out sick today '' but he did confirm she would be in on -/-/-. I called on -/-/- and was told this is her " scheduled day off ''. I feel bullied by this location and refuse to pay a fee to help cover a prior managers irresponsible actions. Furthermore, I have made ample efforts to contact the location with no success. I would think this bank would want to get this box out of my name given I pay nothing for it so they can rent it out to someone and collect annual rent.
