I received an American Express Gift Card as a gift from my boss from work. The first time I tried to use the card ( at a - 's ) only a portion of the purchase was applied to the card ( approximately $8.00 ). I thought that was weird but did n't think anything of it. The next few times I tried to use the card - all charges kept being declined. Curious, I went on American Express 's website to see how much the balance was. To my surprise, the balance was -. The stated beginning balance on the card was $100.00.
