Credit Karma, Inc. Consumer Loan department,
Installment loan Shopping for a loan or lease Washington
I recently signed up with " Credit Karma '' to get my " Free Credit Score ''. I was initially happy with what their service had to offer and was pleased to find that they make their money by recommending various loans and credit cards and are paid by those lenders as opposed to charging me a fee for their service. As it turns out, they said my credit score was " 614 '' ( very low ) and I then recieved multiple recommendations for loans and credit cards based on that very low score, all of which carried very high interest rates in the range of 23 % to 31 %. The low credit scores they showed that I had, made me reluctant to go to my local credit union for fear of them laughing me out of their office! But I prepared myself for a little embarrassment and went in anyway. Well, to my surprise they ( credit union ) said that my credit score was over - points higher at - and I was able to get a personal loan at only 7.99 %!!! So the bottom line is that since they ( Credit Karma ) get paid by the lenders for recommending a particular loan, it makes me wonder if they are fraudulently quoting lower credit scores to their customers to gain a better payout for themselves.
