Synchrony Bank Credit card department,
I have a CareCredit credit card through Synchrony Bank. I used it 3 years ago to pay for dental work for my friend. We set up the account to autopay from his account every month until the balance was paid of in 2012. The account has not been used until I had to have dental work done in -. I got a statement from Synchrony with the my balance info and scheduled the first payment to be sent from my bank account. Unfortunately, my friend 's old account info was still retained in Synchrony 's system and they then took over $700.00 from his account to pay the balance on my CareCredit card. I called their customer service line and they told me to look at my statement and I would find where they told me they were going to do that. That information IS on my statement but it is not on the first page, or the second page but down at the bottom of the - page. I realize it is my responsibility to read and I should have read the entire statement but, as an employee of a financial institution and knowing we are required to put certain information up front, in bold and where our customers can readily SEE and UNDERSTAND that information, I feel that Synchrony Bank has totally FAILED in that regard. My friend stopped payment on the charge from his account ( so he could make his house payment! ) because Synchrony could not reverse the charge in a timely manner ( up to two weeks ). My other credit accounts that are autopay SAY that on the FRONT page. Synchrony should have to change their statements to do the same.
