Checking account Account opening, closing, or management Florida
I was given a fraudulent cashiers check. I deposited into my savings account and made no attempt to withdraw the fund. The check was determined to be a counterfeit cashiers check. Upon learning this fact I immediately notified the supposed issuing bank. They informed me that they were experiencing a " flood '' of fraudulent checks being given to victims throughout the country. I notified my bank - Wells Fargo - and, even attempted to provide them with information relative to the actual identities of the individuals that had given me the fraudulent checks. They were not interested in obtaining any information nor willing to receive copies of the complaint I had filed with my local police department or US Postal Service ( US Postal Inspector ). Wells Fargo suggested that I deposited a fraudulent check into my personal account - suggested that it was my responsibility to know if the check was good or not - and, immediately closed my account ( s ). I asked why then the - hold on the check upon deposit? The bank clearly was not a victim because they lost no funds. I was the intended victim of a scheme yet lost no money. I was quite surprised that they essentially terminated and closed my accounts - and, their fraud department would n't even engage in a civil conversation about the specific details of the scheme that was meant to defraud me.
