I am a - and am now entering my fifth year of -. When I entered - - -/-/2011, I deferred both my federal and private - student loans until I am out of - -. My private loan at the time was through - -, which is now Navient. This fall Navient informed me that I had a 48 month limit to my loan deferment, even if I have been enrolled as a full-time student this entire time, according to my promissory note. I found the promissory notes ( I have - loans with Navient ) with the electronic signature from when I took the loans out, and there is no language that says I only have a 48 month limit for deferment. When I disputed that claim on the phone Navient representatives were dismissive, told me all promissory notes have a 48 month limit and that there is nothing I can do and I must pay now, and told me to send all correspondence via a mailing address, rather than dealing with this issue on the phone or online. Additionally they removed all of my original online documentation from - - when my account was rolled over to Navient. I have also paid for forbearance to temporarily lift my loans out of delinquency because they were charging $ -/month payment and this payment is unreasonable. I expect that Navient should have the promissory notes in their accounts and quickly agree to honor our agreement either online or over the phone, and that they should allow me to keep my loans in deferment while I am still a student.
