My wife asked at a hotel desk for a cab to go to the local - - in - - MD. The desk clerk told her, " We have our our own service '' The boss of the limo service she called knew when the clerk called him that my wife wished to go to the - -, a $24.00 fare with tip. Without asking permission to do so, the driver of the limo which the boss assigned took my wife all the way by side streets to - for $84.00 including tip. She was unfamiliar with the area. As she was alone in the car, she paid with a credit card in order to avoid confrontation. We are nit disputing that she was the one who signed the charge. We believe that the driver " took her for a ride '' by deception. Afterward when we complained to American Express about the deceptive practice, they simply sent us a copy of the driver 's charge signed electronically by my wife and said it was an authorized charge. We felt that it was deception and continued to generate supporting letters to the American Express Fraud Department trying to explain what happened. Each time American Express sent us the same unsigned form letter denying the complaint, along with another copy of my wife 's signature, claiming that the driver stated it was a valid charge. It seemed that American Express did not ever once even read any of the documentation about the deception. After the third denial we would like to escalate this dispute as American Express is completely unresponsive.
