We received numerous letters or ads from our mortgage company, Freedom Mortgage, stating that our house was valued at $240000.00 and that we could refinance to use some of the equity in our house. After applying and providing scores of paperwork, we were told that our house appraised at only $200000.00 by an appraisal company from Indiana and we could only get a new mortgage if we paid $10000.00 for it up front. The appraisal was based on more than - houses, - of which was out of our district and was half the size of our house plus it was appraised at only $170000.00 which lowered our appraisal considerably. I believe that this is a practice that is being used to scam homeowners and wish to have a federal investigation of this mortgage company.
