Credit card Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt California
Received a phone message with message of intent to sue for non-payment. Multiple family members and friends received the exact same message with my name, at the exact same time that day. I was unaware of this debt, having thought it was included in our bankruptcy. Upon some research I was able to determine this debt was over 9 years old. I am unable to pay as I am the only working and my husband is out on a medical injury, soon expecting surgery. I am unable to make such a substantial payment, and they have indicated I need to do so within 48 hours or they will take me to court and I could 'lose everything '. When contacted, the company would not allow me to speak to any of the named individuals ( each family member gave me a name of who called, all were the same first name but different last name ) only telling me that, that person was not available. I got the distinct feeling no such person existed. The number came up on everyones phone as blocked or restricted, however the number was quickly mentioned on the phone message.
