Vehicle loan Problems when you are unable to pay Illinois

I am financing a vehicle through Exeter Finance Corp., the loan started - @ - a month for 6 years i financed - for a -/-/- - -, i noticed the balance was not going down after - - yrs of payments so when i started to inquire on why that is, in a course of approx 2 months i was told because i pay late they are charging a daily interest rate which is why the principal is not being applied, there is a late fee of 5 % interest on the contract and that is all.
