I went to Jared Jewlers in - Florida with my girlfriend to purchase a engagement ring. We choose a ring that she was extremely excited about. I traded in some diamonds which they gave me a $2500.00 credit for and asked the Jewler - to remove - halo of the small diamonds and replace them with a halo of sapphires, he advised I would receive a $200.00 credit for those diamonds. I put down $3000.00 and was left with a balance of $10000.00, when I was reviewing the paperwork it said my payment would be interest free for 19 months at $340.00 which was in my budget. I picked up the ring a week later and proposed to my now fianc. Approximately a month later I received a monthly bill for $580.00. I was shocked and thought there must have been an error. I called the credit card company and they explained that to get some sort of points credit - had set up my credit card account based on $6500.00 and later after I left the store called the credit card company back and added the additional $4000.00 which increased my payment from $340.00 to $580.00. I explained that
I got the sense that he had done this many times to many customers. I asked him if he could extend the term to make the payment affordable with in my budget and what he had told me it was going to be and what the paperwork said. He told me that there was nothing he could do to change the payment terms. I left and started researching Jared 's on the Internet, I discovered that many others customers of Jareds had similar experiences. It is not only illegal but also unethical to tell people there payment is one amount when it is actually another amount, especially when it is in writing. For an associate to quote one payment amount, put it in writing, and state that is the payment amount but later after the customer leaves the store to call the credit card company and add amounts to their credit card to later increase the payment. This is pure extortion, and against the law. I am hopeful this matter will be resolved amicably. In -/-/-, I paid my first payment of $400.00, $56.00 more than the amount that I had agreed to both verbally and in writing. I have received numerous collection calls since I made that payment informing me that I am delinquent and threatened that my credit score would be negatively impacted due to my delinquency. I look forward to hearing back in the near future how we can resolve this issue. Sincerely, -
