Medical False statements or representation Attempted to collect wrong amount South Carolina
In - of 2013, I suffered a - attack and went to the emergency room at - - - - in -, SC. I was treated and told to contact a provider who would perform - surgery. I received the attached statement after my treatment and assumed an insurance claim had been sent to - - - - as well. I knew that I would be responsible for payment as my deductible and out of pocket maximum had not been met. However, I did not notice that for some reason, my insurance was never billed for services received at - - -. I was unable to pay the balance until - of that year, due to the fact that my husband was laid off earlier in the year. In the mean time, my bill had been sold to Central Financial Control ( CFC ), a debt Collector. After I sent the balance to - - - -, they, in turn sent it to CFC. I did have my - removed in the - of 2013 and claims were sent to my insurance company ( - - - ) but were denied. - stated that my deductible and out of pocket
in to BC/BS properly. They refused to talk to me because they had already sent my account to Central Financial Control ( CFC ), their Debt Collector. Every time I called, they transferred me to CFC. CFC refused to send in the claim as they had already been paid. I was told that it was not their responsibility. So, I contacted - myself and sent in all the paperwork. They reviewed the hospital bills and other claims from later medical procedures and determined that - - - - was due $2400.00. They sent the check to - who in turn sent it to CFC. The original delinquent amount that CFC was due was only $1400.00. They issued a refund check to me for the original amount and kept the extra $910.00. This was not their money to keep, so they have literally stolen this money from me which I need to pay off other outstanding medical debt. I still have the original refund check. I have not cashed it because I am afraid doing so will mean the account is settled. I called CFC and asked a representative why I was not paid the entire amount and they said they did n't have to. I spoke with a representative at - and an attorney who said what CFC did was illegal. I told the CFC representative that I was going to hire an attorney and they laughed at me. Most of the representatives I spoke with were rude and - even burped on the phone when I was speaking with him.
