HH Gregg advertises available financing on their website in - easy steps. This would lead the average consumer to believe after being approved, they could immediately purchase items online. However, HH Gregg has advised their financing company, Synchrony Bank, not to disclose the account number to the applicant prior to the applicant receiving their card. Synchrony Bank will only provide the account information to HH Gregg staff. This prevents a new applicant from immediately utilizing their credit & obtaining all available discounts online. Furthermore, Synchrony will not release account number to customer even after purchase is made if requested prior to 14 days after application approval. This practice is deceptive and unethical. HH Gregg & Synchrony Bank are colluding to extend credit to consumers, and then withhold information pertaining to that credit once approved for an extended period ... in an elaborate scheme that essentially boils down to petty price-fixing. When contacting Synchrony Bank to obtain account number for online account setup AFTER making an in-store purchase with HH Gregg but prior to receiving the first statement/bill, they advise they can not disclose the account number. When asked why, they explain


because that is what HH Gregg has requested ''. To offer credit online and not disclose that the line can not be immediately utilized online prior to the application - that is fraud & deception. To extend credit to a borrower and then refuse to disclose the account number to the borrower for 14 days ... may not be illegal ... but it certainly is n't an ethical business practice. If the excuse is security, that excuse is quickly eliminated since in-store purchases can be made immediately upon approval utilizing the same information you would provide over the phone to obtain the account number.
