My US Bank - - credit card offers 5 % cash back every quarter on categories that I choose. For the - quarter of 2015, I choose electronics as - of those categories and made a purchase in the amount of $1900.00 at - based on receiving 5 % cash back for this purchase. - is specifically listed on the US Bank - - rewards site as popular merchant in this category ''. On my recent statement, US Bank is only crediting me the standard 1 % cash back. Upon contacting US Bank, they explained that I was n't eligible for the additional 4 % because the merchant coded their transactions as Catalog Merchant rather than Electronics. While I understand that US Bank ca n't be held liable for how a random merchants codes their transaction, by listing them as an example of a merchant in that category, they are falsely implying that transactions with that merchant will receive the 5 % bonus ( despite the fine print that they ca n't guarantee a purchase will qualify for 5 % rebates ). US Bank has not done their due diligence to verify that their list of example merchants is accurate and as a result is deceiving their customers. This deception affected my purchasing decision. I would not have made this purchase without the promise of 5 % cash back and as a result have been injured in the amount of $79.00 in lost rewards.
