Amex Credit Card Complaint

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement

Amex Credit card department,

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement Maryland

On - -, 2015 I received a letter from American Express Co - AE -. dated - -, 2015. The letter states A merchant where you used your AE Card detected unauthorized access to its data files. '' I called AE to inquire as to what merchant was involved and when the breach was found, but AE told me they were not given that information, so we closed the account. I believe that AE, and all credit card companies, should receive full details of data breaches and be allowed to pass that information along to affected card holders so they may be better aware of impacts to their personal credit and identity theft. I also believe that withholding this information is not in the publics interest and serves the criminals by allowing them to operate in the dark. I ask that you, or AE, provide me with full disclosure of this data breach. Thank you for your time.
