Amex Credit card department,
Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement Oregon
Last - my wife applied for an American Express card through -. Instead of assigning her name to the card, American Express assigned my name and information. I did n't know about this until I reviewed my credit report earlier this year. This impacted my credit rating in - ways ; ( 1 ) a hard credit inquiry, ( 2 ) an impact to the amount of my outstanding credit, and ( 3 ) a reduction in the average age of my credit cards. I submitted a complaint to the Oregon State Atty. General, and have received a reply from American Express ( Amex agent - -, - ), but am not satisfied with the tone of the letter ( 1 ) implying that they are assisting me as if I was the cause of the problem, ( 2 ) in not providing any explanation as to how they will prevent such actions from happening in the future to me or others, and ( 3 ) assurances that my good credit has been returned to the level it would have been had Amex not taken such aggressive liberties with my excellent credit and Identification. I take my credit rating very seriously, and try to maintain my credit score above -, and have never been late on a payment. As such I take considerable offense when a company such as Amex is cavalier in abusing my credit, and essentially stealing the use my identity for their monetary gain!
