I went to Macy 's and purchased - items. The clerk was pushing me to open a macy 's credit card and told me my purchase qualified for 20 % off ( up to $100.00 ) if I opened a macy 's card. I did ( it took a while ). I was assured that the discount would appear on my first statement. The receipt for the credit card said something similar : " Your NEW ACCOUNT SAVINGS WILL APPEAR ON YOUR 1st STATEMENT, not your purchase receipts. '' I called Macy 's multiple times ( they were closed originally ( do n't open until - ) ) and had a complex system that did n't recognize my account number ( and wo n't let you in until it recognizes your account number ). I spoke today to - ( employee number - who told me she would " manually '' put in the discount. I asked why it was n't applied originally and she had to go ask someone. I told her I was going to file a complaint. She came back and said it was because the system did n't recognize the delivery of my items. This makes


I want Macy 's to be held accountable so folks that do n't have the ability to review all statements and remember the commitments and navigate this complicated system are n't taken advantage of. You should n't have to dispute a bill to get what was promised to you. I would like the practice of promising a discount to appear on your credit card statement but not on your receipt to end. This puts the onus on the consumer to try to track down that discount. It should be given immediately when the charge to the card is made. That way the receipt matches the true cost and provides documentation of what the consumer believes she is paying/owing.
