Medical Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed Debt is not mine California

On - - -, I was brought to the - - - due to -. I was still - when I got there. As soon as my -, I told the staff that I did not want to be treated or examined and walked out, since I was n't sure whether - was going to cover the hospital bill. ( I had just received my - acceptance letter shortly before this incident. ) A few weeks later, I received - invoices : one from the ambulance service, one from the hospital. I called both companies and gave them my - number so they could charge - ( since I now knew that - covers emergencies ). The ambulance service was apparently able to charge the bill to - without any issues. However, about 4 months later, in - - as well as in - - I was surprised to be sent - letters from the - - - asking again for the - USD they claimed I owed ( even though I had refused treatment ). I received those letters in - since I had been out of the country in -. I called the hospital up immediately and asked

she read it back, it was correct. Since then I did not hear from the hospital again at all. On - - ( -/-/- ) I received a letter from a debt collector asking for the " outstanding '' debt to the - - -. The debt collector said that the documentation they had gotten from the hospital did not show that any - number had been given - even though I had given it to the hospital twice ( albeit once apparently incorrectly ). I was shocked. The worst part about this is, of course, that - generally only pays bills that lie, I believe, at the most about one year back. The - - - # 1 apparently failed to attempt to collect the payment from - and # 2 failed to inform me about this in due time so that I could have gotten in touch with - myself. Now, that the timeframe during which they could have claimed the amount from my insurance has passed, they try to make me responsible for their failure.
