I opted sign up for Discover Card 's at 0 % APR promotion which expires on -/-/2017. I recently reviewed my monthly statement and online account details to find out the expiry date for the promotion because I could n't recall the date. I found that the promotion expiry is not shown anywhere that the consumer can view : not on the statement and not online. After contacting Discover through their chat function tonight, I was informed that the only way to find out is by contacting Discover. This was really upsetting to me because the only reason Discover would choose to do this is to deceive customer by not disclosing this vital information. When I stated my dislike for the policy I was told that Discover complies with all the requirements in informing the consumer. If that is the case, I suggest an investigation be conducted to see how many consumers have unknowingly had promotional periods lapse only to be hit by usurious rates of 25 % afterwards. This is likely a violation of Federal Trade Commission Act Section 5. Deceptive Acts or Practices : An act or practice is deceptive where A representation, omission, or practice misleads or is likely to mislead the consumer ; A consumer 's interpretation of the representation, omission, or practice is considered reasonable under the circumstances ; and The misleading representation, omission, or practice is material. This policy is likely also a violation of Regulation AA. I have not suffered monetary damages yet as a result of the unscrupulous policy by Discover, but am concerned that many others have likely have unwittingly lost a lot of money.
