A few days after we made a first and full payment of a parent plus loan we were notified that we qualified for Total - forgiveness. We immediately called up nelnet and they expclitly told us that even though we just paid it off we would be refunded if we qualified. After a few months we contacted them to check status and found out that we did qualify. However, because the account had been closed they were n't able to systematically do a refund and suggest we contact my - -. My - - tried to help but eventually gave up. Nelnet has yet to follow up with us but basically told us they did n't know what to do. The loan amount was around - and we could really use that money back.
