Amex Prepaid Card Complaint

General purpose card Fraud or scam

Amex Prepaid card department,

General purpose card Fraud or scam Texas

I 've had an American Express Serve card for at least a year, maybe longer. I got the AME- - ( prepaid ) card because there are NO FEES, which is wonderful. My purpose in getting the Serve card was that every time I get paid by my employer, I put $300.00 on the card. That $300.00 is used to pay for food items, so until last week, that is all I had ever used the card for. But last week, I bought $20.00 of gas ( paying at the pump ) with the AME- - card. Before I started pumping the gas, I checked my card balance, which was about $95.00. I bought $20.00 in gas. Next thing I know, I get a " Low Balance '' email alert from AME- advising that my card balance is ZERO!!!!! That 's because the gas station charged my card $100.00 for $20.00 in gas!!!!!!! I was FURIOUS. I called AME- and told them I wanted to report FRAUD and THEFT because the gas station took $100.00 from my card even though I only bought $20.00 in gas. The AME- representative told me THAT IS NORMAL and LEGAL. I said NO IT

to pay for gas AT THE PUMP ; you have to pay for gas INSIDE the store. WHY IS THE AME- prepaid card allowed to be treated ANY DIFFERENTLY than a debit card? The money is taken off the card IMMEDIATELY. This is the - century. There are not more " wait --7 days before your transaction shows up ''. THIS IS DISGUSTING and SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED. I happen to always have about $2000.00 in my normal checking account ( debit card ), but what happens to honest to - POOR PEOPLE who ONLY have prepaid cards and then they use it to pay for gas at the pump and the gas station takes $100.00 off their prepaid card and they have to wait -10 days to have their money refunded??? THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED. I hope the CFPB can and will do something about this GROSS INJUSTICE. Thank you. - / - Texas
