greetings, - ago, i recevied a prepaid visa card as a gift. it was issued by PAYPOWER/- : card no. - - - - ; expiration - ; security code, - i activated it last week and everything appeared fine until i attempted to make purchase. i was told there were NO funds in the account. i called PAYPOWER and was told that i had to give them the original amount loaded onto the card before it could be activated. well, since it was a gift, i 'm unsure if i ever knew the original amount, and if i did, i have long forgotten. these cards are usually affixed to a display card that shows a range of values. a value is not shown on the card itself. also, gift givers do n't customarily tell you the value of a gift. " here -, this is a shirt i paid $50.00 for. '' just not done. i called - who is the issuer of the card. i was told someone would contact me within 24 hours. no one has. my guess is that if a card is not activated within a certain period of time paypower cancels it knowing full well that the recipient either never knew the original amount or has forgotten. if the card was purchased by an individual to pay bills etc., that 's a completely different situation. prepaid cards should remain usable until the expiration date. THIS IS A RIPOFF!!! i have a card which someone paid good money for that is now worthless. PAYPOWER/- can not be allowed to cheat consumers with impunity. i hope the full powers of the CFPB will be brought to bear against these unethical entities.
