Bank of the West Credit Card Complaint

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement

Bank of the West Credit card department,

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement California

I have been a longtime customer at bank of the West. I recently received a letter regarding a new $10000.00 credit card I had been approved for, which was followed by the actual card. I had never applied for a credit card so I contacted the bank. I explained to them I had never applied for a credit card and wanted this closed and an explanation on how this could have occurred. I was told that there was an application and I requested a copy be provided for my review. The call agent closed the account ( which I verified the next day ) and said a copy of the application would be sent to me. After a week passed and several confusing calls from the bank, I did contact an employee today who explained that the application was received over the phone and that I would not be receiving a copy of it. I stated that I still wanted an explanation of how this could have happened. After a few minutes the agent asked if I had ever spoken to - at the - -, which I stated no I had not. The agent explained they would have to contact a supervisor and get back to me. With the situation at - - and the risk of identity theft, I am concerned that either I am victim of identity theft or Bank of the West has the same issue as -.
