Amex Credit Card Complaint

Credit line increase/decrease

Amex Credit card department,

Credit line increase/decrease Massachusetts

American Express unexpectedly lowered my account limit from $10000.00 to $6200.00. When I called and requested further information, they stated that a periodic review had encouraged the decrease, due to my " balance-to-payment '' ratio. However, I believe this is a fair lending violation. I previously held an American Express credit card with my former-boyfriend ; he was the main account holder. Throughout his tenure as a card holder, his credit limit was never decreased, it was, in fact, increased, despite his high balance and minimal monthly payments. With his consent, I accessed his account today and found that, even though his balance was over $8000.00 and he has only been making the minimum monthly payments, his credit limit had not decreased and had, in fact, been increased on a separate American Express card, on which he also carries a high balance and makes minimum monthly payments. As a female who makes more money than my former male counterpart, I am outraged that my credit limit was decreased, despite a lower balance and larger monthly payments. I believe this is a clear example of discrimination against females.
