I applied for and received a credit card with American Express on - -, 2016. The bonus offer was - Membership Reward points if I complete - in spending before 90 days ( - -, 2016 ). I completed my spending requirements and was initially given my - points on - -, 2016. Then, because this promotion was made in error by American Express, everyone who was given this card on - - had their points frozen pending a fraud investigation. I utilized the chat function on the AME- website to voice my displeasure with this event because I needed those points to be available when I was promised them due to booking a family vacation. I chatted with - at AME- and let him know that I wanted to downgrade my card to another product that utilizes Membership Rewards but that I was worried I would lose my, at the time, - MR points. He assured me not only could I change products, but that I would be given my full annual fee back and I would be able to keep my points, as long as I changed to another card that used those points. AME- on - -, 2016 and spoke with -. She told me my account was under additional review because I changed products but there was nothing to worry about, it was OK to change products, and my points would be cleared by - - provided I had not committed fraud or returned mass items. Now today, - -, I logged in to find I had - MR points deducted from my account. I first used the chat feature on the website to ascertain why. I was told it was because I changed products. I asked to speak to a supervisor due to the fact that I was told by - different AME- employees that I would be OK changing and keep my points. Supervisor said I had to call in to discuss. I called in and spoke with manager - in Rewards and he informed me it could be for fraud, returning, or changing products. I have now had to wait 9 weeks for points I rightfully and legally earned. I did not cheat the system, make mass returns, or violate any policies. I spent, after minimal returns and fee adjustments, a total of $3500.00 in the allotted time of 90 days, needing only $3000.00. I will also include my statements for the time in question to prove that fact. I am asking for assistance in getting my - MR points back that I rightfully earned. I would like to avoid having to obtain legal assistance, but will if I have to.
