Credit monitoring or identity protection problem with fraud alerts

Experian Credit reporting department,

Credit monitoring or identity protection Problem with fraud alerts New York

I experienced a potential identity theft which was made evident when I tried to file my Federal Income taxes electronically on - -, 2016. The IRS told me there was a duplicate submission for my SSN, and I had to follow an alternate filing process. I established a 90 day fraud alert with the - credit bureaus per IRS instructions. I erroneously also added a credit freeze at Experian, which I am trying to remove. The problem is that I ca n't talk to anyone at Experian and they will only ; let me unfreeze the freeze by using their automated system and paying a fee. I read on their page that there is no fee, in my state ( NY ), if the person is a victim of identity theft. I have been trying to get in touch with them for over a week now ( via their web site and email ) and there is no response. It 's like they are a monolithic corporation. It 's not so much the dollar amount, but the principle of it. .... the law allows me to unfreeze my credit at no charge, yet Experian is making that virtually impossible. By the way, they provide no individualized email or phone customer service, from what I can see. Hopefully, I am wrong about that but, that, in itself, is alarming. What about people who have more serious problems? Thank you
