My credit card through American Express is currently set up for automatic monthly payments. The payment is set to be my full statement balance on the due date every month ( the - ). There have been no issues for five months, until this month 's payment. This month 's automatic payment was paid exactly one day late. No settings were changed, and the bank account connected to the account has well over fifteen times the amount of the bill. Seeing as the payments historically transacted on time every month, and the next automatic payment is set to be paid on time, without any change of settings, I 'm inclined to believe that American Express deliberately postponed my automatic payment in order to collect their $27.00 late fee. Especially because they make little revenue from customers like me that pay everything in full on time, thus avoiding credit card interest. I have done absolutely nothing to warrant my automatic payment to be LATE, and yet I 'm charged a late fee and both myself and my wife ( authorized user ) will suffer from the negative impact this will leave on our credit scores, forever affecting our credit health.
