Currently have an Administrative Wage Garnishment in effect that is 25 % of my biweekly pay. This went into effect without knowledge of a summons. Contacted Alaska Commission on Post Secondary Education ( ACPE ) about the issue, and was told that they were able to proceed even without my presence or knowledge. Attempted to negotiate a payment plan, but was declined. ACPE told me the only way the garnishment would be lifted is if paid in full. Their other alternative was filing for a reduction from 25 % to 15 %. Filed the proper paper work and was denied even that. I am in a place where I can pay affordable monthly payments, but want an option that wo n't keep damaging my credit. The - on my credit has had a negative ripple effect on more and more as time passes. I am trying to be proactive with my finances, but ACPE has put me in a stranglehold from moving forward. I have called ACPE countless times on my options, and all I get is the same thing back. I can not believe there are no relief alternatives. No options after the administrative wage garnishment is in effect. After half a year of payments, no options.
