Amex Credit Card Complaint

Billing disputes

Amex Credit card department,

Billing disputes New York

I recently signed up for AutoPay on American Express. After signing up, it said it would take - billing cycles before it would be active, so I went ahead and paid my bill for the current cycle. But the AutoPay was active ( and their website did not show that it was ) so it charged me again for my bill, and subsequently overdrew my bank account. When I noticed this, I contacted my bank - - - - - and Amex. - - - provided me a temporary credit for - of the transactions. The next morning the temporary transaction had been removed from my account so I was charged an overdraft fee again. I called the bank again and received another temporary credit. When I called Amex the first time, they said there was n't anything they could do since the payment had already " posted '' even though it was still pending on my bank account. I had to call Amex 6 more times to resolve this issue. First, they said that

they said they had. Then Amex tells me that they will fix the issue because my credit card statement was showing a negative balance. They said they could apply the balance to another card I had with them, but I told them that I just wanted a refund for the payment. They said they ca n't issue one directly to my bank account, so they will mail a check to me and fix my account within 48 hours. A week later, my account is still not fixed, but I do receive a check in the mail. However, Amex now shows that I owe them for the check that they sent me because my bank settled the dispute with them and made my temporary credit a permanent -! No one from the bank or Amex had mentioned anything about this to me until I got a letter in the mail over a week and a half later. I called Amex again to see if they could cancel the check and remove the money I " owe '' them, and they tell me they will and that it will take up to 48 hours. Over a week later, my account has not been fixed so I call them again. They then tell me the only way to cancel the check is to mail it back to them so they can void it, but they said it could take up to a few weeks. They told me I should just cash the check and pay them online. This has occurred over the span of 4 weeks - each time Amex arguing with me that I owe them twice for my credit card bill and then promising to fix it. To top it off, some of the customer service representatives were extremely rude and accusatory.
