Amex Credit Card Complaint

Other

Amex Credit card department,

Michigan

I believe that American Express is conducting a form of wire fraud. I have an American Express credit card. I used this card to purchase a -. At my home number, I received a message on my home answering machine from the AmEx Fraud Prevention department saying that I had to call the - number on the back of the card and report that I had received the devices and was satisfied, before AmEx would pay the merchant. I made that call on - -. The merchant reported no payment. I called AmEx again, and we reassured " that your account was charged on - -. '' Merchant was still not paid. I called AmEx yet again ( this time to a number that the merchant told me that they had been told by AmEx that I had to call ... a different number than the one originally left on my home message machine. I called that number and was again told that my card was charged on - -. As of today, the merchant reports that they have still not been paid.

my home message machine told me that I had to call the phone number on the back of my credit card in order to have the payment released. They told the merchant that I had to call a different number. This " looks like '' to my eye, a prearranged scheme that causes delay and makes it virtually impossible to get the payment released to the merchant. If they are doing this to just a few - of their customers, they must be effectively " borrowing '' many - dollars from their customers and not fulfilling their customer or their merchant agreements. In my opinion, inasmuch as AmEx is using interstate wire services to accomplish this, this appears to me to be federal wire fraud. I 'd like this fixed.
