Installment loan Problems when you are unable to pay California

I asked for $1800.00 they approved me then when I went to sign the paperwork it said loan was for $2600.00. I told them I did not want $2600.00 they told me that I needed to take it or they would have to re approve me and draw up new paperwork which would 2 weeks. So I signed the paperwork. After 16 months of paying them over $200.00 I had more than paid off the original loan amount and my husband left me. I could no longer afford to pay this so called and tried to renegotiate with them. At this point the lady got extremely hostile and rude towards me and all but called me a beadbeat. So I stopped paying it. Now 8 months later their debt collector is suing me for $2600.00 plus attorney fees which I can not afford. Need help with this and their illegal lending practices.I 'm
