Incorrect information on credit report Account status South Dakota

in 2006 my wife had - and the final bill was - dollars which insurance paid - and I paid -, some how a small bill for - was overlooked and sent to - - in - -, SD which I paid right away and - - said they would recall the debt, well it never happened and 10 years later it is still showing as a paid collection account effecting my credit score and interest rates when I am applying for loans, each financial institution mentions it every time and that it effects my score by - points, I have gone to long lengths with - and - to get this removed and they - play the dumb role and say there is nothing they can do, believe me it is driving me crazy, I need this removed from Transunion -, I have never miss a payment and I am proud of it, can you please help me out. I am sick of having these businesses push the consumer around and not correct a simple mistake like this.
