I opened an credit card account with Discover Card in 2004 and had about $7000.00 in debt when I quit using the card and it was being paid from my checking account automatically. I assumed the debt balance was being paid down slowly but I discovered it was growing and the interest was increasing to about 27 %. I now owe $20000.00. I contacted them and asked for a settlement and they refused. They said as long as I was paying monthly they would continue to collect but if I quit paying they would sue for the entire amount plus costs. I realize my fault was not paying attention but I do n't feel I owe for debt I did n't make.
