I am trying to apply to remove my cosigner from my - of my private loans. I was told on the phone with a representative that I could apply because the I have paid - consecutive months on the loan. In the mail I got a letter saying that I was not eligible for the cosigner removal application. I called by bank and asked what was happening. after being put on the phone with an account manager I was told that I could not apply because I had a late payment on my record from - years ago. The account manager told me to write a letter and fax it to the bank asking for the record to be removed because I was never late again for the past - years. I wrote a letter and explained that the payment that was late was my first payment ever, that I was fresh out of collage and young and made a mistake. the wrote me back and refused to removed the late payment record. They admitted that I paid on for all my other bills and that the late payment did n't even have a late fee because it was n't over - days late, But still they wont remove it. They said Unfortunately, we are unable to remove that history. Remember, making your student loan payments on time may help you build and maintain a good credit history. I was informed on the phone that I can never remove my cosigner because of that late payment. My cosigner is my Mother. both of my parents went through a bankruptcy and i would like to have them taken off my loans.
