Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt California
-/-/-A man called my home asking for me by my name, he said legal action has been filed against me in court and he was coming to see if I was home because he was on the way to deliver court documents. I asked him to identify himself. He said Renew Financial had filed court papers to sue me for a debt. I got their telephone number and case number and called and got a recorded message, I said, I do not know them or of their suit to call back to clear this up, because this is a mistake. A man called back asking for my SSN to verify my identity, I refused because I have been a victim of ID theft and he said he had it anyway and gave the last - of my SSN. He said I owed for a company I dealt with -/-/-, and he was to set up payment arrangements. I told him I do n't owe anyone and I do n't recognize the company. I also told him I am calling a lawyer. He was not phased and said tell the lawyer to call him. To my knowledge I do not owe this company. I also checked the internet on this company and found several complaints where they are calling consumers trying to make people pay for old debts and debts they do not owe. I am concerned that he has my Social Security Number.
