Credit card Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt New Jersey

Contacted by midatlantic conumser credit about a debt that is beyond the statue of limitations. Provided to me when requested no statement or proof that i owed the debt. I willingly gave them a settlement payment however when i tried to contact them to change the date of funds the number is disconnected and the person that gave me their personal number does not return any calls. I contacted my bank and stopped the payment. I believe i am being scammed by this company and have seen over the web that other people have had this experience with them as well. I would like to report them and have an investigation opened. The kept calling all my family members about my debt and all different phone numbers were used. and any of those numbers were not in service after i tried to call them back.
