Medical Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed Debt is not mine New York
I am in the midst of a very difficult divorce. I was left with - college aged children. My mom had just died and her house was destroyed by a burst pipe last year. During this time, I accrued a medical bill which I felt was unfairly inflated. I put it aside and forgot to address it due to my overwhelming present life situation. A few months ago, I tried to contact the now debt collector after trying to discuss the bill with the doctor 's office first. I am willing to pay the original amount for the medical bill but not the huge debt collection add on. Nobody is willing to comply. The original bill is for $220.00. The visit did n't even actually help. The original problem that I went there to be treated for still exists. The agency is asking me for $310.00. I refuse to pay extra $91.00 for the collection fee. I need help with this. I feel helpless and I am trying to do the right thing even though I feel the original bill itself was inflated.
