I recieved a letter for settlement of an old debt I owed for an apartment. When I called in to accept the settlement amount, - things happened. 1. They changed the amount because there is a daily interest rate that is applied. 2. They agreed that if I paid the amount of - They would delete the record permanently. I agreed. I then spoke to my credit counselor and she told me that Paying that amount was not necessary, and I called - the next day and told him I would opt for the lesser amount and accept the paid in full gurantee he offered me. Today, this account is being reported as settled for the lesser amount '' and when I called to clarify their statement of settling in full, they stated that settled in full is what they report and what the bureau reports is their own process ''. They made no attempt to correct the reporting, and I feel like I was tprovided flase information in order to pay the debt.
