Credit monitoring or identity protection Account terms and changes Michigan

At the recommendation of my employer as part of a background check, I ordered a credit report from Experian. I was notified at the time I ordered the report that I would be charged $1.00 for the report. After ordering the report, I was instructed that I had signed up for a 7 day trial and would be charged $ - automatically if I failed to cancel the membership within 7 days. I then proceeded to view my credit score just to ensure that it was at an acceptable level, and proceeding to fill out the rest of my job application did nothing further on Experian. I received no further communication from Experian regarding my membership, though they had my email address on file. It was not until I saw a $22.00 charge on my credit card this month that I realized I was being charged for a membership. I immediately called the company and explained I had never utilized the services other than looking at my score when I - signed up for the service, that I felt some sort of a notification that my trial membership was expiring should have been provided to me, and requested a refund.

discounted rate, though I made it clear I had no intent of using the services further, given that I have thousands of dollars in student debt and could n't afford to pay the $22.00 charge for one month, let alone continue paying for a service I had no intent to use on a regular basis. All in all, I felt that the customer service response I received was poor, and that the business practices failed to adequately warn consumers of the charges that they would incur as a result of using the Experian services. As the attached screenshot shows, the initial screen to order the report only says that there is a $1.00 charge to order the report ; the $ - membership fee is only mentioned in small print at the bottom of the - page of the order. I admit that in my rush to complete the documentation for my job, I neglected to remember to cancel my membership at a later time ; but my concern is that less sophisticated consumers than myself will be taken advantage of and not realize the costs they are incurring in merely checking their credit report. Had I known about the existence of annualcreditreport.com at the time, I would have certainly just gone straight there.
