Unable to get credit report/credit score Problem getting my free annual report California

I was trying to file my 2016 taxes through - and when I attempted to register for that, I could n't because they could n't match my information with the credit bureau. I checked my information that I submitted and I was correct and somehow it was n't matching up. I think this is because I do not have any credit history. Anyway, I then went to the credit bureau that they use ( TransUnion ) and tried to get it sorted out. I registered an account and in the process they asked something about monitoring and it did n't explicitly say that it cost anything and at that page there was no fine print to read about it so I went ahead with it. I went back to - to see if maybe something had changed since I made an account with TransUnion and nothing happened. Eventually I used an alternative tax filing software. In the process of filing my taxes, however, I went to my online bank statement and noticed a hold from TransUnion and wondered why. Then I realized what it was when I remembered that they had asked for a payment and I gave my payment information ( debit ). I still cant access my credit information and they have taken my money. Now I want to cancel whatever I signed up for through their cancellation feature but in order to do that I need to have my credit information match their credit information and it still wont do that. Its a catch 22 and I have no clue what to do other than call them and cancel. They are making it very difficult to cancel what I unknowingly signed up for. Thanks for reading this and have a nice day.
