I received an unrecognized charge on my account on -/-/-. I called to report the charge on my Barclaycard CashForward card. They investigated the charge and determined it was a " chip read '' card present transaction. It was billed as a hauling and towing service located in - -. I had made no such charge in -. I was not in - on -/-/- or, for that matter, since -/-/-. They were not able to provide receipt copies or other information pertaining to the charge. I have no record of making a charge for any such towing or hauling services either in - or in my home state of - where I was on -/-/-. They closed the investigation and determined it was my responsibility. Neither Barclay nor MasterCard appear to have any responsibililty for providing evidence that a charge is legitimate. I take efforts to manage my credit carefully and now am placed in a position of paying for a charge that I have no record of making or face derogatory reports on my credit history if I choose not to pay it. Unacceptable. Merchants and the bank processors need to have responsibility in verifying charges.
