U.S. Bancorp Credit card department,
My Father had just recently passed away on - -, 2016. I contacted the credit card company on - -. My father 's balance owed was only around $11.00 and i wanted to pay off the balance immediately, close the account so no further transaction could take place. His balance was due on - -. I was told i could not pay off the balance and had to send a letter with his account info so they could verify his passing. I did the next day. I recieved a letter aobut a week later dated - - requesting more information, i called them on - -, they tell me no further information is required. I asked again about paying off the balance, again they said they could not do it over the phone. they said to send in the payment, i asked to verify balance owed, they told they could n't tell me and to send in whatever was shown on the last statement. Last night i went online to my fathers account to confirm what the balance was and to get an address as to where to send it in. The account was still active, no closure, and now
no idea what balance i am responsible for? If i pay off the initial balance will they continue to add interest charges and late fees on the interest charges and late fees. This seems deliberate action to do so. All the other credit card companies i contacted closed the account on my first call and allowed me to pay off the balance owed. Deaths are of public record and easily verified for any credit agency. I feel that i am being just strung along to be milked for fees and interest charges. They told me it could take up to three months to close the account.
