Unable to get credit report/credit score Problem getting my free annual report New York
My identity has been breached. An unknown party changed my contact info on my - - account. - - said this was done over the phone because the person was able to provide the last - digits of my social security number and answer security questions. ( I do n't disclose this info to anyone ; so, I 'm not sure if this was an inside job or if - - server security was hacked again. ) The next step was to contact the credit bureaus. TransUnion could n't verify my identity/info, so denied my request. Customer service recommended using AnnualCreditReport.com. I went through the process on that site, but TransUnion again could n't confirm my identity/info. This prevented me from seeing if the other - bureaus would release my reports. I ended up ordering the reports over the phone, but it 's going to take 15 days for delivery. Not good when one is trying to repair damage due to a stolen identity and prevent further damage.
AnnualCreditReport.com 's one credit report per year rule should be lifted when one is making the request due to identity theft. Credit reporting bureaus should n't be allowed to charge for a credit report when the request is made because of identity theft. How can the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection help the operators of AnnualCreditReport.com better assist victims of identity theft rather than making the experience more -? Regards, - - - : -
