I went to the bank and was encouraged to open a platinum banking account, as I was told it was a more appropriate match for my banking needs. They left open the old account and opened a new one. I then learned -/-/- that the bank, without my written or verbal permission, at the same time also opened a line of credit directly linked to my bank account. Due to the multiple accounts and confusion with which account was being debited, there were charges which overdraft one of the accounts. Instead of covering the overdraft with another one of my bank accounts which had plenty of available funds, they instead paid the charges using this line of credit I was completely unaware was ever even open. I never received letters about this either. I found out years later that I had a balance of over $2500.00 in this line of credit thanks to the over 20 % interest rate. I never would have agreed to this line of credit, never signed for it, and it was opened completely against my will and without permission. I let the bank manager know of the situation and asked that she investigate the matter
this to be investigated, I had received no assistance so I paid the balance in full and asked that they continue to try and handle this. I found out today that they not only did n't follow up on this matter or contact me but never even closed the account. I asked that it be closed and that a credit be made. I am willing to bet that US Bank opened hundreds in not thousands of these lines of credit without ever notifying customers or getting their permission. US Bank has probably made an enormous amount from interest from accounts they opened with no permission or knowledge of their customers.
